Can a submission to SciPost Physics be published in SciPost Physics Core?

There is now a distinction between the flagship SciPost Physics, and the more common SciPost Physics Core. The descriptions of these journals treats them as separate entities:

However, it can happen that a submission to SciPost Physics is deemed suitable for SciPost Physics Core instead. There could be a mechanism for the Editor to propose such a demotion to the authors. This already exists at Nature, which forwards some submissions to Nature Physics. This would raise a few issues:

  • Who should decide? The Editorial College, or the Editor in charge?

  • At which stage should the decision be made? Renoucing "polishing up your manuscript to the very highest achievable standards" should be decided as early as possible.

  • Should there be a reverse mechanism for promoting submissions from SciPost Physics Core to SciPost Physics? Possibly after peer review?
