Currently, it is possible to formulate a recommendation to reject a manuscript without specifying a journal, in which case the journal field is registered as None (/submissions/admin/[preprint_id]/recommendation). Choosing a journal should be mandatory to avoid ambiguity. We can consider making the option "Reject from all SciPost journals" available. In that case, Editorial Decision email templates should be modified accordingly.
The editorial decision communication to the authors is pretty generic and does not state which journal the submission was rejected from.
What kind of change do you wish to make in the wording @s.e.tapiasarze?
We are sorry to inform you that your Submission has not been accepted for publication.
You can view more details at the Submission's page [submission page]. Note that these details are viewable only by the registered authors of the submission.
This Submission Page has now been removed from general public view; if you wish, you can email us and request to make it publicly visible again.
This completes the editorial procedure on our side, and you are now free to submit your manuscript elsewhere.
Given 1) the complex possible transfers (i.e., mismatch between target journal the authors submit to and journal for which a recommendation is made), 2) that the EiC can give tailored instructions in their recommendation, and 3) that most of the time rejections don't prompt further action from authors regardless of the journal, I think the current wording is sufficient. If the authors need further information and eventually decide to submit the same paper to a less demanding SciPost journal, they should contact Editorial Administration anyway, and further information and course of action can be determined then on a case-by-case basis.
Does the email have a previous paragraph where we say which submission this is about? It would be useful for authors to first know which paper (among eventually several simultaneous submissions) this is about before learning about the rejection.
